Make a Difference in Your Own Backyard
A campaign to build resilient local economies and end poverty through the extraordinary potential of locally produced food
Heifer USA works across Arkansas to create good jobs and wealth through social driven, farmer-owned enterprises. Examples of this are Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs and a livestock cooperative in Arkansas.
Though the Natural State is rich with natural resources, it has long struggled with poverty. One in four Arkansans struggle with hunger. Many families don't know where their next meal is coming from, and unemployment rates in the region are above the national average.
How We're Helping
Historically, Heifer’s model promotes sustainable agriculture interventions through a values-based community approach. In Arkansas, we use a farmer-owned business model as our development approach while providing resources and technical support coordinated with local partners to invest in entrepreneurs, businesses, co-operatives, coalitions and all components of a fresh food value-chain, transforming the way people and communities produce, sell and eat their food to create new, vibrant food systems.
Our farmers are improving local economies, increasing local food production, feeding schools and families and igniting change throughout entire communities. And like every Heifer project, the work in Arkansas is driven by local need, local farmers, local innovation and local leadership.
Thanks to community supported agriculture (CSA) programs, and with the help of Heifer and Rotary, Arkansas farmers are igniting change throughout entire communities.
By supporting Heifer's work in the United States, together we can transform the lives of our neighbors in need. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
